Which Cycling Shoes Are Right
For You?
There are many different
types of shoes on the market specifically designed for cycling. The main
aspect in purchasing a pair of cycling shoes depends on what type of cycling
you will be doing.
If you are a not an avid cyclist and just jump on your bike for some
leisurely recreation or to get from place to place some good tennis or
running shoes can be good cycling shoes. Any shoes that can give you a
decent grip of the pedal can be used as cycling shoes. Try to avoid shoes
that are not able to grip the pedal or ones that are so worn down that they
won’t grip the pedal as well. If your cycling shoes can not grip the pedal
your leg can slip off and cause an accident. One of the most important
aspects in picking cycling shoes is make sure they have a stiff sole. A
stiff sole of the shoe will allow for more power transfer than a soft soled
shoe.
If you are an avid cyclist or a competition cyclist there are many different
types of shoes on the market. Many of these types of cycling shoes can clip
onto the pedal of the bike as to ensure that your foot does not slip from
the pedal. These types of clip-on shoes are best for road cycling as they
give the best power transfer.
In riding through off-road terrain it is important to be able to get on and
off of your bike easily, and a mountain cyclist needs to keep that in mind
when choosing footwear. Plus the chance of falling is greater and with
clip-on shoes it tends to cause more injuries to the legs if an accident
occurs. Also if mountain biking make sure that the shoes have good tread as
many times you will need to hop off your bike if the terrain can not be
managed on a bike. A light pair of hiking shoes can be used when mountain
biking as well.
As with almost any type of footwear, shoes that you use for cycling are
going to offer options for closures. Some people really prefer laces, while
professional cyclists feel more comfortable with Velcro closures or straps.
The only thing you really need to keep in mind is how easy is it for you to
get the cycling shoes you purchase on and off your feet.
Exercise is important for everyone and making certain that you have the
right equipment can be the difference between having a great work-out and
ending up injured. Visit a sporting goods store and have them help you pick
out the right cycling shoes for you.
